Amateur Apparel Clothing was founded in 2019, and is a young and upcoming UK independent clothing brand. We aim to embrace the idea that being amateur is something to be proud of in society. When do we ever reach professional level? There is always more to learn, we’re always changing and evolving our strategies. Rather than feeling like being an amateur is a negative thing, it’s time to embrace the fact that that is what we are. We’re proud as a brand to represent the underdog that is young and upcoming in their journey, and soon becomes the dark horse.
At Amateur Apparel Clothing, we know that we must have a duty of care for the environment, and we strongly believe that we shouldn’t ignore these ongoing issues. It is one of our company values to be as Eco-aware as we can as a brand. To abide by this value, we use suppliers who follow in the same footsteps. Our suppliers use Neopigment Pure Ink to print the back designs on all of our garments. This ink is completely free of any heavy metals, animal by products, formaldehyde and Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APE). But what does this mean? This means that the ink used to print on your garment is non-hazardous, non-toxic and 100% biodegradable.
A lot of high-street brands and online stores are still using plastic packaging. The amount of plastic that is used and wasted in the fashion industry is truly alarming, and this is another issue that us, as a small brand, are trying to raise awareness of. We are doing our bit by using 100% biodegradable compost postage packs. We are working with an Australian company called Better Packaging who share values on addressing the issue of plastic use in the industry. Therefore, we pride ourselves in admitting that we do not use plastic for the postage of our garments. The Better Packaging materials represents a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions than traditional plastics, and we LOVE this! When you receive your garment, instead of throwing your postage bag in the bin, you should place it in the green recycle bin, or directly into your compost. This then takes a short amount of time before it breaks down into compost, a process in which is pretty magical to keep an eye on.
We also believe that we have a duty to protect our suppliers. We only use UK suppliers for our garments and only use well established companies to produce our hoodies. We feel it is important to know where your hoodie comes from and we are strongly against the idea of the unfair working conditions that are happening in the industry. We use a local embroidery company too, because we also believe in the importance of small businesses supporting small businesses. If you have any questions regarding the process in our garment making, or any general enquiries, please get in touch and a member of the team will get back to you as soon as we can.
